Analyzing Survey Results

Review response rates, drill into team-level breakdowns, and track sentiment trends.

Once your survey responses start coming in, CompassHQ provides a set of tools to help you understand the data and take action. This guide covers how to access results, evaluate participation, and identify meaningful patterns.

Accessing Results

  1. Go to Surveys from the main sidebar.
  2. Click on the survey you want to review. Active surveys show a live progress indicator; completed surveys display the final summary.
  3. The overview page shows aggregate scores, total responses, and a breakdown by question.

Response Rate Tracking

High response rates produce more reliable data. CompassHQ helps you monitor participation in real time:

  • Overall response rate — Displayed as a percentage at the top of the results page. Aim for at least 70% to draw confident conclusions.
  • Team-level rates — Expand the Participation section to see which teams have responded and which are lagging. Low response rates in a specific team may indicate survey fatigue, lack of awareness, or disengagement.
  • Reminders — If a survey is still open, you can send a follow-up reminder directly from the results page to boost participation.

Team-Level Filtering

Use the Team dropdown at the top of the results view to filter all charts and scores to a single team. This is useful for:

  • Identifying teams whose scores diverge significantly from the organization average.
  • Preparing for one-on-one conversations with team leads by reviewing their team’s specific feedback.
  • Comparing teams that use different processes or tools to understand what is working.

Trend Analysis Over Time

For recurring surveys, CompassHQ automatically builds trend charts that plot each metric across survey rounds.

Reading Trend Charts

  • Each data point represents one completed survey round.
  • Hover over a point to see the exact score, response count, and date range.
  • Use the time range selector to zoom into a specific quarter or expand to the full history.

Identifying Patterns

  • Gradual declines — Sustained downward movement over several rounds suggests a systemic issue worth investigating.
  • Sharp changes — A sudden spike or drop between two consecutive rounds often correlates with a specific event such as a re-org, major release, or policy change.
  • Stable scores — Consistency is not necessarily bad. Flat trends in high-scoring areas confirm that things are working well.
