Navigating the Dashboard

Get familiar with the main dashboard views and find the information you need.

Once your account is set up and your team is connected, you will spend most of your time in the CompassHQ dashboard. This guide walks through the main sections so you know where to find everything.

The left sidebar is your primary navigation. It provides quick access to every major section of CompassHQ. The sidebar remains visible on all pages, so you can switch contexts without losing your place.

Main Sections

Teams

The Teams view is where you define your engineering teams, assign repositories, and set delivery profiles. Each team has its own detail page showing member lists, connected repositories, and a summary of recent delivery activity. This is also where you configure whether a team follows a continuous deployment or scheduled release cadence.

DORA Metrics

The DORA section displays your four key delivery metrics: deployment frequency, lead time for changes, change failure rate, and mean time to recovery. Metrics are calculated using intent-based measurement, which compares your team’s actual output against its own delivery goals rather than generic industry benchmarks. You can filter by team, time range, and cadence type.

Surveys

Surveys let you collect qualitative feedback from your engineering teams. CompassHQ supports eNPS-style pulse surveys that you can schedule on a recurring basis. Results are aggregated by team and displayed alongside your quantitative delivery data.

Releases

The Releases view provides a timeline of deployments and releases across your organization. Each entry shows which repositories were included, the deployment status, and any associated incidents. Use this view to audit recent changes or investigate delivery issues.

Strategy

The Strategy section connects delivery metrics to higher-level engineering goals. Define objectives, link them to teams, and track progress over time. This is where engineering leadership can align day-to-day delivery performance with organizational priorities.

Filtering and Time Ranges

Most views include a time range selector in the top-right corner. You can choose preset ranges (last 7 days, last 30 days, last quarter) or define a custom date range. Filters persist as you navigate between sections, so you do not need to reselect them on every page.

What to Explore First

If you are just getting started, we recommend:

  1. Set up your first team under the Teams section and assign its repositories.
  2. Review the DORA dashboard to see your initial metrics after the first data sync.
  3. Send a pulse survey to start collecting team sentiment data alongside your delivery numbers.
