Quarterly Goals

Set quarterly engineering goals and link them to projects.

Quarterly goals give your engineering organization a structured cadence for planning and tracking objectives. Goals are linked to projects, which appear on the Strategy Map and North Star Roadmap.

Managing Quarters

Quarters are managed by admins via Admin > Quarters.

  1. Click Create Quarter to add a new quarter.
  2. Enter a label (e.g., “Q1 2026”), start date, and end date.
  3. Click Save.

The current quarter is automatically determined based on today’s date.

Creating Goals

  1. In the Quarters admin view, select a quarter from the left column.
  2. Click Add Goal in the right column.
  3. Enter a title (e.g., “Improve deployment reliability across Tier-1 services”).
  4. Add an optional description with additional context.
  5. Click Save.

Goals can be reordered by dragging, and each goal can include external links for reference.

Linking Goals to Projects

Goals gain meaning when connected to the projects that advance them.

  1. Navigate to a project’s detail view.
  2. In the Goals section, link the project to one or more goals.
  3. The connection appears on the Strategy Map as an edge between the goal node and the project node.

You can also manage links from the goal-project links API.

Tracking Progress

Progress on goals is tracked indirectly through the projects linked to them:

  • Each project has a status (not started, in progress, blocked, completed) and a confidence score (0-100).
  • The Strategy Map shows these statuses visually, making it easy to see which goals have active, progressing projects versus stalled ones.
  • Project pulse scores (weekly team health ratings) provide additional signal on how the work is going.

There is no separate key results or OKR system — progress is derived from project status and confidence.
