This article covers the specific capabilities and limits of Compass AI so you know what to expect.
Capabilities
Data Access
Compass AI can query all of the data that your dashboards display:
- DORA metrics — Deployment frequency, lead time, change failure rate, mean time to restore
- Services — Service list, health status, deployment history
- Incidents — Open and resolved incidents, duration, severity
- Teams — Team composition, metrics by team
- Releases — Release schedules, adherence, history
- Projects — Project status, progress tracking
- PR hygiene — Review cycle time, churn rate (Manager and Admin only)
- Surveys — Survey results and developer sentiment (Manager and Admin only)
Inline Charts
When data is best understood visually, Compass AI generates charts directly in the conversation. Supported chart types:
- Line charts (trends over time)
- Bar charts (comparisons)
- Area charts (cumulative data)
- Pie charts (proportions)
Charts are limited to 500 data points per chart for performance.
Streaming Responses
Responses stream in real-time. You’ll see text appear as it’s generated and indicators when the AI is fetching data from your tools.
Message Limits

Messages longer than 4,000 characters are automatically truncated. The AI receives up to the last 30 messages in a conversation for context — older messages are still stored and visible in the UI but aren’t sent to the AI model.

Rate limits use a rolling window. If you hit the per-user limit, wait until some of your older requests age out of the current hour. The per-org limit is shared across all users in your organization.
Security
- All data queries are scoped to your organization. The AI cannot access data from other orgs.
- Your role determines which tools the AI can use — Contributors get read-only access, Admins get full access.
- Conversations are private to each user.
- Input is sanitized to prevent injection attacks. HTML and control characters are stripped.
- The AI model never sees your raw credentials, API keys, or session tokens.
